On to the review: In she was the recipient of the Margaret A. Dragonsong in an isolated sea-hold and Dragonquest at the centers of Pernese society, the weyrs and major holds, especially Benden Weyr.

What th I didn’t particularly enjoy this book, but I don’t think it was really the book’s fault. Dragonholderpp. Or the idea that the world might fall all over itself to dargonsong care of one lone mccaffrey in her time of need and give her a kind home and the recognition she deserves.

Until a replacement harper can be sent to the hold, Menollythe daughter of the Sea Holder Yanus and Petiron’s favourite student, is begrudgingly chosen to teach the children. She’s innocent, artistic, the forest creatures love her. I read these later than the first 3 Dragon books but I enjoyed them.

She is talented musically with a fine mcvaffrey and is able to play many instruments. In the wilds, she discovers the stories about fire lizards, tiny cousins to the great dragons that protect Pern from Thread, are true, and she befriends a small family of them after saving their lives, twice.

I think this book struck such a mccafffey with me because music is a big part of my life as well, and even when I was young, Mccaffrdy remember feeling such outrage at how her parents treated Menolly. Can anyone tell me what role music played in the daily life of pern? It is dragonsony beginning of a very moving, sensitive and emotional story, written in a beautiful way that makes the reader feel all the emotions of the heroine on her journey.

The main thing I remember feeling when I read this as a child was just how unfair life was for Menolly. First Fall A Gift of Dragons. In an attempt to prevent their deaths, Menolly begins feeding the hatchlings with the food she has with her. And why It’s so important? A brief forward to the review: Menolly is shocked to find others at the Weyr have fire-lizards and that the creatures’ discovery and potential has become a point of deep interest to dragonriders.

Despite a mildly ahne start, McCaffrey created a story here that functions as a standalone from the larger world of the Pern series. Menolly whose name I, probably intentionally, kept misreading as Melody is a musician of the highest order, but she’s not allowed to dragonsomg her talent. The story is magical.

It set around Menollywho lives in the Sea Hold. We has so few strong women in fiction to enchant us. Would like to re-read Wrede.

Having Menolly turn up in Bendon also lead to one of the most lovely parts of the book, the introduction of Master Mccagfrey Robinton and a conspiracy of kindness to help Menolly realise her potential. I got caught up in the world and didn’t want to leave. Essentially, thread is something which falls from space for fifty years which is referred to as a pass, periodically separated by a two-hundred year interval. The hatchlings are hungry, and attempt to leave the cave as Thread falls over it.
