Hryer need to brush the taste of slug out of my mouth. There’s a lot of dry wit in this, and plenty of passages made me smile or even laugh out loud. The Marquis was irritatingly perfect, and it did feel like Heyer indulged her fantasies of perfection just a little bit much with him. This is my favorite Georgette Heyer.

I loved how she didn’t fall ga-ga for Lord Alverstone on chapter 2, and go on rambling about how amazing he was until the last page. The boys she has raised virtually single-handed could have been so messed up, but instead they are healthy, happy and vibrantly individual; and Charis is unaffected and far from being a Tiffany-Wield-style spoiled brat though she is still a hopeless airhead.


If you read romance you know where this story is going to go, but Heyer never rushes the relationship. frererica Heyer is famous for her great characterization, and in this novel, her characters are not just people in a story, they became realso real that you come to know them, love them and predict their every move as if you’d been acquainted with them for years.

I hesitate to label this as a romance novel as it’s really so much more than that. Anywayyyys, as I was saying, they are not married and everything it okay fredericq The Heyer binge continues, but either my stamina is flagging, or this one just wasn’t as much to my taste.
